The ancestry of John Owen is uncertain. In the 1850 Census, he is shown as 50 years old, born in Maine.[1] A John Owen was born at Topsham, Maine, on 28 Oct 1799 to John and Harriet Owen,[2] and a FindAGrave memorial, without citing any sources, says this was the John Owen who died at Brunswick, Maine, in 1872,[3] but more evidence is needed to conclusively establish the releationship.
Marriages
On 25 Oct 1821, the town clerk of Livermore, Maine, certified that "an intention of marriage between Mr. John Owing of Livermore & Miss Julia Goding of Brunswick hath been entered & published in the Town of Livermore as the Law directs."[4]
A gravestone at the Pine Grove Cemetery in Brunswick, Maine, says that John Owen died on 28 Jan 1872 at the age of 70.[3]
