Son Samuel's birth was registered in the Apr-May-Jun quarter of 1845 in the Congleton district. (Mother's maiden name: Owen).[4]

Son George's birth was registered in the Oct-Nov-Dec quarter of 1852 in the Congleton district. (Mother's maiden name: Owen).[6]

The 1871 and 1881 censuses show James' wife at a much younger age with an approximate birth year of 1840. Her place of birth is also given as Spurstow and then Faddiley, both places are close together but at a distance from Sandbach.

In the 1871 census Sarah (age 30) was the wife of James Brereton in Wybunbury, Cheshire, England.[7]

It seems likely that James had 2 wives named Sarah but more research is needed to find the date of death for Sarah Owen and estblish the identity of the 2nd wife.

Hi Michael,

It looks like James Brereton (Brereton-526) had two wives who were both called Sarah, I have traced the LNAB for his first wife and have adapted this profile to fit her. More research is needed to establish the identity of the 2nd wife. Please would you take a moment to change the LNAB on this profile to Owen?

Thank you,

Gwyneth
