Biography

I lived in Amsterdam for the first 2 years of my life and in 1948 we (the family) moved to Colombo for the next 5 years where I began my schooling at Ladies College in Colombo. We then went to Australia and after a short spell in Sydney settled in Woodridge a suburb of Brisbane. I did all my schooling in Australia and commenced work as a Laboratory technician at the Princess Alexandra Hospital in Brisbane in January 1964. I moved to New Zealand intending to travel the world. I began work in August of 1965 in Auckland at Laboratory Diagnostic Service in the same type of work. I worked there for about 3 years and in May of 1968 moved to Hamilton. I again started work in the same line of work at Hamilton Medical Laboratory. I continued my education and became a qualified Medical Laboratory Scientist in 1970. I worked at this laboratory for 39 years until the laboratory lost the contract and closed at the end of 2007. I then became the Charge Scientist at Tokoroa Hospital where I worked for 1 year. I then got a position of Head of Haematology at Labtests in Auckland where I worked until my retirement in September of 2017. I am now retired and still living in Hamilton, my home for the past 53 years with my wife Heather and son Marlon. I was married on June 13 1970. I have two other children Sacha and Gina and 2 grand children Archie and Violet.

Check out Beyond the Basics of WikiTree for a guide on some of our more advanced features such as Projects, Categories, and Merging.

We're very active on our social sites and we have an excellent blog where you'll find our monthly newsletter as well as tips, interviews with our members and guest posts from others in the genealogy community.

Hi ,

Now that you have had a little time to try WikiTree, there are a few more features you may find useful.

Ideas on what to include in a profile can be found in Styles and Standards, including some tips on writing biographies.

If you need to describe an event, an heirloom or a location relevant to your research, you may like to learn about Free Space Profiles.

Lastly, sometimes you'll run into unresponsive profile managers. We have a process for resolving those unfortunate situations.

If you have any questions, feel free to ask via my profile page.

Hi Eric,

Thanks for your message providing information about yourself and family. Nice to hear you agree to the WikiTree philosophy and guidelines. I have found WikiTree to be an excellent tool for research and collaboration.

You are now a member of the WikiTree Community. Please note we are trying to build one Collaborative Tree which means one profile per person. It is important to ensure no duplicates are entered as you add Profiles to WikiTree. Once you entered your family members it is exciting to see other people finding your family profiles, asking questions, and expanding it.

If you need any help getting started check out the help section from the menu, top left, or head over to the G2G forum, you might want to check out the introductory WikiTree video that a member created.

Our Mentor Team are a friendly bunch of volunteers who will be glad to help you with specific problems if you have any.

Great to have you on board, good luck growing your branches, and thanks for offering to help with our shared tree.

Yes I am willing to contribute a gedcom file of around 1000 family members. The majority of the oudijn family members were added by a cousin of mine in the Netherlands, his name is Albert Oudijn and he has a copy of the family details on his website at http://home.kpn.nl/gozewijn22/pacific.html

I was born in Amsterdam on 25/01/1946, the family moved to Ceylon in 1948 and left there in 1952 and emigrated to Australia in 1953. I left Australia in 1965 and moved to New Zealand. I agree with Wikipedia's mission and am willing to abide by the nine rules.

Congratulations on your new GEDCOM badge. Here's a link to a great step-by-step of the process including screenshots that you might find helpful.

The help pages give lots of information about the process, best to start with 'Before you import a GEDCOM'.

Please keep in mind that our vision is to build a collaborative tree with just one profile per person, so please make sure to look for duplicates on WikiTree before adding a profile. Thank you for taking the time to go through your gedmatches.
