Biography

John Orvis was born about 1839 in Canada West (now Ontario, Canada). He was the son of Isaac Orvis and Juliema A Orvis (43).^[1]

In the 1850 US census, John Orvis (age 11) was living in Oakfield, Fond Du Lac, Wisconsin, with parents Isaac Orvis (40) and Juliema Orvis (43), and with siblings Henry (19), Loyd (16), George (14), Charles (13), Emily (7) and Francis (4), and with James Orvis (34).^[1]

In the 1900 US census, John J Orvis (age 60) was living in Buffalo, New York, with daughter Mary L Orvis (22). He was widowed. He was the president of a loan company.^[2]
