Simon was son of Symon and Rebecca (Ray-Ballard)) Orne. He was born 11 January 1679/80, in Salem, Massachusetts.[1][2] Refs #1 & 2 do not support DMY of birth (need source to support DMY birth).
Before 1708 - He "took in" Mary Bowdish and helped raise the 3 daughters by her disgraced husband, Nathaniel Bowdish. (Prior to this, abt 1701, Mary's husband, Nathaniel had been convicted of "buggery (with a dog) and severely punished. Following his public whipping, her husband disappeared without a trace.)
- Simon and Mary were never married. A line about the colony said "... their union was accepted by society"[1][2]. Their neighbor's acceptance of this arrangement was doubtless influenced by the extreme circumstances of her husband's estrangement.[4] Simon had three daughters w Mary.
