At the time of the 1881 census, Clara, aged 2, was living with her parents and two older brothers at Victoria Street, Congleton.[4]
Clara's mother died of TB on 17 October 1881, when Clara was just 3 years old. On 15th February 1885 her father remarried. In 1888 Clara gained a new half-brother, Frank Orme.[5]
By 31 March 1901, Clara was working as a Domestic Servant, but still living with her family in Congleton. Two new half siblings had accived, Lucy and Arnold.[6]
At the time of the 1911 census, Clara was still at home in Congleton with her stepmother, Sarah Ann (Critchley) Orme, her brother James and half-brothers Frank and Arnold. She was employed assisting in her stepmother's Florest and Fruiterer business.[7]
