John Wright Omand was born 31 January 1895, in New Zealand as the son of Peter Spence Omand and Susannah Farnley Drew.[1] He was a Painter.
He served in the New Zealand Army during WWI. Service No. 27573, last rank Private, Otago Infantry Regiment, 1st Battalion. Embarkation Details: WW1 23 Sep 1916-19 November 1916 to Devonport, Devon. HMNZT 65, Vessel was Pakeha. Private,17th Reinforcements, Otago Infantry Battalion, D Company, New Zealand Expeditionary Force.[2]
He died of wounds in WWI 26 October 1918, at the age of 23, in Belgium, Europe.[3] His Cemetery is the Lijssenthoek Military Cemetery, Poperinge, West-Vlaanderen, Belgium, XXII. F. 5.
