John Henry Olsen was born on 21 January 1928 [1], the son of Henry Rufus Olsen and Esma McCubbin.
John Henry Olsen AO OBE was an Australian artist and winner of the 2005 Archibald Prize. However Olsen's primary subject of work was landscape painting.
In 1962, John Olsen married fellow artist Valerie Strong (Frogatt). [2] He had previously been married to Mary Flower [3]. John Olsen was later married to his third wife, also an artist named Noela Hjorth until 1986. And he married his fourth wife, Katharine Howard, in 1989. Katharine Howard passed away in 2016.
Artist John Olsen passed away in April 2023 at his home near Bowral in New South Wales, he was 95 years old. [4][5]
