Biography

Maronette P. “Nettie” Olmstead was born November 1, 1842 in Sandy Creek, Oswego County, New York. She was the son of Anson Gates and Almira (Plumley) Olmstead. [1]

Her family moved to Camden, Oneida County, New York in the Spring of 1844, where her father was a successful businessman. [2]

In 1875, she was boarding in Camden and working as a Milliner. [3]

From about 1884 until 1900, she appeared in the City Directory in Toledo, Ohio. She was a Trimmer for various firms and in 1895 was Manager of the pattern department for Hart & Co. in Toledo. [4]

In December 1909, she was aboard the S.S. Newport that arrived in San Francisco, California. In 1920, she was in Los Angeles in the household of her sister, Frances Worden. [5] [6]

She died January 1, 1927 in Los Angeles County, California. She is buried in Inglewood Park cemetery, Inglewood, Los Angeles County, California. [7] [8]

Orwell -- Word has been received of the death of Miss Maronette P. Olmstead, Jan 1, 1927 at the home of her sister Mrs. James Worden in Los Angeles, Cal. Miss Olmstead was born in Sandy Creek, November 1, 1842 moving with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Anson G. Olmstead, when she was two years old, to Camden, where her girlhood and young womanhood was spent. She has been a frequent visitor in Orwell, before she went to California to live. Miss Olmstead was a cousin of G. O. [Gilbert Orimel] Olmstead and the late A. E. [Arthur Eastus] Olmstead. – The Sandy Creek News, Thursday, January 20, 1927.
