Biography

Floyd Leroy Olmstead, son of Ollis and Martha (St. Peter) Olmstead was born in Caribou, Maine on 21 May 1924.

He served in the military during World War II

He married Betty Richter (1930-2008) and they had three children

  2. Donna Marie, b. 1953; m. (unknown) Rupert
  3. David F., 1951

He married Barbara Dewitt (1939-2024)

Floyd died 3 April 2003 in Greene County, Tennessee.

He was buried in the Andrew Johnson National Cemetery in Greenville, Tennessee. [1]

Floyd Leroy Olmstead Apr 3, 2003
Floyd Leroy Olmstead, 78, of Rainbow Circle, and formerly of Caribou, Maine, died Thursday at Laughlin Memorial Hospital.
Mr. Olmstead served as a major with the U.S. Air Force, where he was a pilot and a veteran of World War II and the Korean War. After 21 years of service, he retired from the USAF. He then joined The Austin Co. as the chief pilot, retiring after 26 years.
Mr. Olmstead was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church and the Greeneville Moose Lodge. He was a member of the Oklahoma Masonic Lodge, during the time he was stationed at Vance AFB in Enid, Okla. His family noted that he was a beloved husband, father, and grandfather and they said he was a wonderful friend to all.
Survivors include his wife: Barbara DeWitt (Johnson) Olmstead; a son and daughter-in-law: David and Becky Olmstead of Greeneville; two daughters and a son-in-law: Donna Rupert of Norman, Okla., and Debbye and Larry Hipps of Greeneville; a stepson and his wife: Shannon and April Johnson of Greeneville; six grandchildren: Weston Olmstead, Jenna Arens Rupert, Juliuanne Rupert, Tobi Gregg, Paul Hipps, and Wayne Hipps; two special stepgranddaughters: Cortney Johnson and Megan Johnson; four great-grandchildren: Odaria Arens, Drake Arens, Allen Michael Gregg, and Emily Hipps; his father: Ollis Olmstead of Caribou; four brothers and sisters-in-law: Dale and Dodie Olmstead of Caribou, Norman and Jackie Olmstead of Shiro, Texas, Maynard and Eleanor Olmstead of Wolcott, Conn., and Wendall and Jan Olmstead of Plymouth, Conn.; a sister: Mrs. Ronald (Marie) Malm of Lancaster, S.C.; a brother-in-law: Wilfred Levasseur of Caribou; two sisters-in-law: Claudine Olmstead of Caribou and Margaret Olmstead of Wolcott; his mother-in-law: Mrs. Roscoe L. (Ruth) DeWitt of Greeneville; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Bill and Karen DeWitt of Greeneville, Jack DeWitt of Tullahoma, and Judy and Buford Neas and Peggy and Andrew Renner, all of Greeneville; several nieces and nephews; and special friends: Mark Skillman, Phyllis Pridham, and Jackie Hogan.
He was a son of the late Martha St Peter Olmstead and was preceded in death by three brothers: Philip Olmstead, Dewayne Olmstead, and Rodney Olmstead; and a sister: Leona Levasseur.
The family will receive friends from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Sunday at Kiser Funeral Home. A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday in Andrew Johnson National Cemetery. Pastor Jonathan Richey will officiate. Shaw AFB Honor Guard will conduct a military graveside rite. Pallbearers will be Weston Olmstead, Mike Neas, Paul Hipps, Wayne Hipps, Mark Skillman, Ritchie Renner, and Chris Renner. Honorary pallbearers will be Tom Austin, Lew Kunkel, Don Fox, Tony Bright, Frank Scott, Tommy Haynes, Hans Andersen, Fred Serral Sr., Fred Serral Jr., Dr. Kenneth Susong, Don Chandler, Reece Holt, Robert Hogan, Eddie Humphreys, Bill DeWitt, Jack DeWitt, Andrew Renner, Buford Neas, and Larry Hipps.
Memorial contributions may be made to Shiloh Cumberland Presbyterian Church or to the Greeneville-Greene County Humane Society. [2]
