Biography
Son of John Swansea Ollis, Jr. (1819-1891) and Frances Burlson (1822-1871), John was born in Yancy County, North Carolina on February 22,1845. He fought as a private, at least in 1861, in Company E of the 6th Regiment of the North Carolina Infantry during the American Civil War.[1] He married Susanna Rayfield in South Carolina on December 8, 1866, and their children included:
- Martha Joan Ollis (1867-1927)
- B. C. Ollis (b. 1869)
- Susanna Alice Ollis (b 1873)
- Lafayette Wheaton Ollis (1873-1932)
- Lorenzo Ollis (1876-1954)
They made their home in York County, South Carolina until sometime before 1900, when the moved to Georgia.[2] Susanna died in 1915 and John remarried, marrying Mary Eugenia Funderburg (b. 1855) in Barrow, Georgia on February 11, 1917. John passed away in 1935
