In the 1930 census Clarence (age 6) was the son of Clarence Oliphant in Council Bluffs, Pottawattamie, Iowa, United States.^[3]

In the 1940 census Clarence (age 16) was the single son of Clarence Oliphant in Council Bluffs, Pottawattamie, Iowa, United States.^[4]

In 1942, Clarence registered for the U.S. World War II draft.^[5]

On July 17, 1943, Clarence married LaVerna Dean Jones in Montgomery, Alabama.^[6]

Clarence trained as a Tuskegee Airman and served in the 332nd Fighter Group during World War II. He achieved the rank of 2nd Lieutenant.^[7]

In the 1950 census Clarence (age 26), Carpenter, was the married head of household in King, Washington, United States.^[8]
