Biography

Elizabeth was born in 1892 in Ironwood, MI, the daughter of William Olcott and Fannie Bailey. Her family settled in Duluth, MN by the time she was two years old, and she spent her childhood there. Her father was very successful in the mining and railroad business, and their family became one of the wealthiest in the city. She did an undergraduate degree in Smith College. She married Torrey Sylvester Ford, a writer, in Duluth, MN in 1921. They lived between her parents' residences in Duluth and Pasadena, CA, eventually settling in La Jolla, CA. Elizabeth (Bee) was artistic, from crocheting to designing stage sets to making all her Christmas cards by hand each year. She used a typewriter that wrote in script. The couple had one child together. Her husband died of a stroke in 1967. Elizabeth passed away from cancer in 1981.

Gates and children, Olcott and Barbara, arrived Friday from New York City. Miss Janet E. Rane of Boston, a niece of the bride-elect, and Frank W. Rane arrived Friday morning on the Tionesta.
