Sydney Oke is an Anzac who served in World War One.
In World War I, Private Sydney Thomas Oke enlisted into the Australian Imperial Force on the 7th of July 1915. His Next of Kin was listed as his father, Thomas Oke of 18 Marshall Street, Newmarket, Victoria. Private Sydney Oke regimental number 2285 was assigned to the 24th Battalion, 4th Reinforcements, and this unit embarked from Melbourne, Victoria, on board HMAT A20 Hororata on the 27th of September 1915. This voyage in turn embarked from Fremantle, Western Australia on the 5th of October 1915.
Lance Corporal Sydney Oke continued to serve with the 24th Battalion and returned to Australia from the 16th of March 1919. Note that his brother: Regimental no. 3094 Pte James Leslie OKE, 3rd Pioneer Battalion, returned to Australia from the 31st of March 1919.
Sydney died on 22 March 1960 in Heidelberg, Victoria, aged 63 years.[4] His remains were buried at Barrabool Hills Cemetey.[3]
