In Memoriam: Marion Ogden was an active and generous member of WikiTree. Their presence in our community will be missed. However, their many contributions will live on as part of our shared family tree. This is a gift they gave to family members, distant cousins, and future generations, and is now a permanent part of their legacy.

Biography

Marion Edward Ogden was born on October 30, 1929 in Waterford Township, Illinois, son of Isaac Elmer Ogden and Goldie May Eveland.[1][2][3]

Marion attended Lewistown High school in Lewistown, Illinois, graduating in 1949.[1][4]

Marion (19) married Clarice Marllene Harland (20) (born on May 3, 1929 in Steger, Illinois; daughter of Farris Victor Harland and Marguerite Clarice Rutledge) on July 15, 1949 in Canton, Illinois.[5]

Marion worked for Caterpillar Inc., a graduate of their Engineering Training course.[1] Marion furthered his education by attending evening classes at Canton Community College, Bradley University, and Illinois Central College.[1]

While at Caterpillar, Marion co-applied for a patent (#4425825) for Improvements in Transmission Devices on 12 May 1980 in Morton, Illinois.[6][7] The patent was granted dated 17 January 1984, "Geared input mechanism for a torque converter".[8]

After 36 years, Marion retired in 1991, as Project Engineer in the Powershift Transmission Design group at Caterpillar's plant in East Peoria, which took him on travels throughout the US, Canada, England, and China.[1]

Marion was a pilot and part of the Bradley Flying Club. Marion was a woodworker, a carpenter, and a genealogist.

Marion and Marllene travelled the world and served as Peoria Charter Coach travel escorts which included all of North America.

Marion was a volunteer for AARP out of the Morton Public Library, there he prepared taxes for low-income and the elderly. Marion also volunteer for the American Red Cross as a driver. For the Better Business Bureau he volunteer as an arbitrator. As a member of Grace Church of Morton, Marion volunteered as a Sunday school teacher and served on their Christian Eduction Committee.

Marion died on August 17, 2023 in Morton, Tazewell, Illinois, aged 93.[1][9]
