Henry was a Confederate Calvary Soldier. At the age of 28 years Henry Odom enlisted in the Civil War at Bennettsville, S. C. on Christmas day - Dec. 25, 1861 for a period of 12 months. He was assigned to 'F' Co. of the 21st S. C. Infantry as a 'Private'. His enlistment officer was Capt. J.A.W. Thomas. (later to become an author/writer on Marlboro County). His active duty ( first Muster Roll) began at Georgetown, S. C. on January 10, 1862. Henry's war records were assigned the number starting with the first four digits 4964--- with a total entries of 14 that became his war story. He served his duty from Dec. 25, 1861 to July 6, 1864.....He was KIA at the Battle of Petersburg, Va. He served well.
