Biography

Sydney John Walter Edmund Oakes was born on 12 August 1839 in London, England, the son of Emma Selina Oakes and John Edmund Walter Oakes.^[1] He was christened on 14 January 1841 at St Pancras Old Church, London.^[1]

He married Sarah Matilda March in 1860 in Victoria, Australia.^[2] Their son was:

• Herbert Harold Stewart Oakes (1861–1941)^[3]

Sidney died in 1914 in Cheltenham, Victoria, aged 74 years.^[4]
