Barry Edward O'Meara born about 1786 in Ireland, son of Jeremiah O'Meara, solicitor, and his wife, Catherine Harpur.
He was a surgeon, born in Ireland, who accompanied Napoleon to St. Helena, and became his physician, having been surgeon on board the Bellerophon when the emperor surrendered himself.
He was married twice, but details of his first marriage are not known. By his first wife he had Denis O'Meara of Tipperary.
In February 1823 he married his second wife, Theodosia Beauchamp (d. 1830), daughter of Sir Edward Boughton of Lawford and his second wife, Anna Maria Beauchamp. Theodosia was the widow of (1) Captain John Donellan and (2) Sir Egerton Leigh.
O'Meara's granddaughter, Kathleen O'Meara was a Catholic writer based in Paris.

He died in London on 12 July 1836 and four days later he was buried beneath the floor of St Mary’s Church, Paddington.
