Biography

William Connie O'Barr was born 29 Apr 1923 in Scottsdale, Maricopa, Arizona, son of Grant O'Barr and Beatrice May Whinery. [1]

William was enlisted as a private in the Air Corps on 25 Mar 1942. [2]

Stationed as a pilot at the Martlesham Heath airfield in Suffolk, UK he (1st Lt.) flew a Republic P47D Thunderbolt in a bomber support operation on 29 May 1944. Fluctuating and dropping oil pressure made it impossible to continue his flight. He dropped to 6000 ft, rolled it over its back and bailed out safely [3] [4] , but was taken POW. [5]
