Biography

Toirdelbach Ua Conchubair (Turlough O'Conor), (Tairdelbach Már Ó Conchobair), (Toirdelbach Ua Conchubair), king of Connaught was born in 1088, in Connaught, Ireland, the son of Roderic O'Conor (Ruaidrí na Saide Buide) and Mór, daughter of Toirdelbach Ua Briain. ^[1]

Turlough Mor O'Conor became King of Connaught from 1106

In 1118 he divided Munster into two coequal kingdoms

From 1121, he was the most powerful Irish prince

In 1125 he deposed the king of Meath and appointed three kings in his stead

In 1126 he made his son Conchobar king of Dublin and Leinster

In 1129 he built a castle on the River Shannon at Athlone.

He married Tailltin O'Melaghlin, daughter of Morrough O'Melaghlin, King of Meath.

He married Durcloulagh O'Mulroony, daughter of Melachlin O'Mulroony.

He married Dervorgilla McLoughlin, daughter of Donnell McLoughlin, High King of Ireland, in 1131

In 1154; "A fleet was brought by Toirdhealbhach Ua Conchobhair on the sea, round Ireland northwards, i.e. the fleets of Dun-Gaillmhe (Norse/Irish marauders), of Conmhaicne-mara (Connemara), of the men of Umhall (Clew bay, Mayo), of Ui-Amhalghadha (Moy river, Mayo), and Ui-Fiachrach (Connacht), and the Cosnamhaigh Ua Dubhda (king of Ui Fiachrach Muaidhe) in command over them; and they plundered Tir-Conaill (Tyrconnell, Donegal) and Inis-Eoghain (Inishowen, Donegal). The Cinel-Eoghain (Tyrone) and Muircheartach, son of Niall, sent persons over sea to hire (and who did hire) the fleets of the Gall-Gaeidhil, of Ara (Isla of Arran), of Ceann-tire (Kintyre), of Manainn (Isle of Mann) , and the borders of Alba (western Scotland) in general, over which Mac Scelling was in command; and when they arrived near Inis-Eoghain, they fell in with the other fleet, and a naval battle was fiercely and spiritedly fought between them; and they continued the conflict from the beginning of the day till evening, and a great number of the Connaughtmen, together with Cosnamhaigh Ua Dubhda, were slain by the foreigners. The foreign host was however defeated and slaughtered; they left their ships behind, and the teeth of Mac Scelling were knocked out." ^[2]

He died in 1156
