I looked for Eric Nyström in military muster rolls. First I looked for the source used by "Blekinge Båtsmansregister". It was easy to find him since we are given the company (Blekinge 1. indelningskompani.) and the number (132). We see that he was born in Småland, accepted into service on January 22, 1808, and died on November 6, 1808.

1808: "General Mantals Rulla uppå Första Indelnings Compagniet i Blekingen Uprättad År 1803."; Flottans arkiv, Båtsmanskompanier, SE/KrA/0500-0503/0503/036/IV/3 (1783-1808), bildid: A0038037_00177

Since he was referred to as a "volunteer" when he married in 1797, I figured that he must have done some kind of military service before 1808. A "volonteer" in this context means someone recruited for a limited time period. I found him in the second "amiralitetsvolontärregimentet" (admirality recruited regiment?), as number 32. He was recruited on May 26, 1795. The contract was for 12 years (i.e. until 1807). It is stated that he was 22 years old at the time of recruitment and that he was born in Kronobergs län (county). His patronymic surname was "Hansson". In the first muster roll from 1796 we find that he served on a ship named "Manligheten".

1796: "Rulla uppå det Contre Amiralen och Riddaren Wälborne Herr Olof Martin Fust i nåder anförtrodde Compagnie wid 2dra Amiralitets Volontaire Regementet uti instundande September månad år 1796"; Flottans arkiv, Rullor på Volontär-, Sjöartilleri- och Marinregementena samt Mariniärkåren., SE/KrA/0500-0503/0503/036/VI /14 (1795-1796), bildid: B0003599_00337

1805: "Besigtnings Munster-Rulla uppå 2dra Amt:s Volontaire Regementet"; Flottans arkiv, Rullor på Volontär-, Sjöartilleri- och Marinregementena samt Mariniärkåren., SE/KrA/0500-0503/0503/036/VI /20 (1805), bildid: A0038177_00021

1806: "General Munster-Rulla uppå 2dra Amt:s Volontaire Regementet"; Flottans arkiv, Rullor på Volontär-, Sjöartilleri- och Marinregementena samt Mariniärkåren., SE/KrA/0500-0503/0503/036/VI /22 (1806), bildid: A0038179_00022

Home run Joakim. Thanks so much!!! I'm currently going through every church book through the entire parish for 1772 - 1774 until I find him. Eric/k is not a very common name in this time period. Thanfully ;-)
