Biography

In 1755, Daniel Norris appeared on the first tax list taken in Orange County, North Carolina. He was taxed for 1 white poll and 0 black polls.^[1]

In his last will and testament dated 27 May 1765, Daniel Norris devised 220 acres of land lying on both sides of Bear Creek, being “the Plantation whereon I now live,” to “my son-in-law” (husband of daughter Ann Norris) Thomas Beal “after the death of his mother…” (?) Daniel also bequeathed “to my well beloved wife [really looks like “Mathew” but perhaps was intended to read “Martha?”] Norris” all personal estate; at her death to pass to Thomas Beal. Will also includes bequests to Elizabeth Hart and Evan Jones, with no relationship to either specified. Witnessed by John Thompson, Peter Bornal, Mary Jones.^[2]
