Biography

Emmett was the youngest child of Edward and Ellen O'Halloran Nolan.^[1] The family moved from Brainerd to Little Fork, near International Falls, when he was five. About a year later, his mother and one of his brothers died in the 1918 flu epidemic.

The family moved back to Brainerd by 1920.^[2]

Emmett worked as a laborer in the railroad repair shops in Brainerd for a time.^[3] Like hIs father, Emmet moved back to International Falls in the 1930s. Emmet was married to Edna McConnell. Their first child, a son Robert Emmett, died shortly after birth, in Fort Frances, Ontario, across the border from International Falls.^[4] They also had a son Thomas Emmet born in 1935^[5] and daughters Colleen, born in Canada in 1938^[6] and Patricia Irene, born in 1941.^[7]

In 1940, Emmet was working as a laborer on a WPA sewer project in International Falls. His wife was working as a waitress in a tavern.^[8]They later moved to Duluth, Minnesota where their children grew up.^[9]

Emmet was working for the Chicago and North Western Railroad in Rockford, Illinois, in 1958.^[10]

Emmet died at age 91. He had been living in Aurora, Illinois.^[11]
