Edward was born about 1797. He is the son of John Nixon and Mary Armstrong.

In 1851, Edward was widowed, and a butcher by trade.

Melmerby is about 11 miles from Alston, so he may have been the Edward Nixon who married Sarah Walton at Alston on 18 Nov 1820.
