Biography

Patrick was born in 1565. He was the son of Henry Nisbet and Janet Bannatyne.

Senator of the College of Justice and Advocat when married 1608 on or about 16 Jun 1608 Jean Arthur [1][2]

He was first Nisbet of Dryden then Nisbet of Eastbank

There is a contract dated 3rd December 1613, by which James Nesbet, merchant burgess of Edinburgh, with consent of Marioune Arnot, his spouse, sells to "Mr Patrick Nisbet, advocate, my brother-german," in consideration of the sum of 1200, an annual rent to be uplifted out of a tenement in the High Street of Edinburgh.

Bannatyne of Newtyle, was bred to the law, and appointed one of the Commissaries of Edinburgh. He was admitted as an ordinary Lord on the 14th February 1626, and died before the 1st November 1636, when Patrick Nisbet, Lord Eastbank, was received in his place. [3] He was admitted lord ordinary 1st November 1636. He was knighted by the marquis of Hamilton, the royal commissioner, on 14th November 1638. In 1641, as a keen supporter of the king, he was deprived of his office, which was conferred upon Archibald Johnstone of Warriston, then clerk to the general assembly of the church of Scotland.

He passed away between Nov 1646 & Jan 1648. 14 Jan 1648 Extract general retour in favour of Mr Henry Nisbet, as heir to Sir Patrick Nisbet of Eastbank, senator of the College of Justice, his father [4]

'Parents were HENRY provost of Edinburgh 1535 and Jonet Bannatyne not the third son of James Nisbet, merchant The first of the Nisbets of Dirleton was the celebrated lawyer, Sir John Nisbet, Lord Dirleton. His father, Sir Patrick Nisbet of Eastbank, was the third son of James Nisbet, merchant in Edinburgh, a brother of the above-mentioned Henry Nisbet, by his wife, Margaret Craig, sister of Thomas Craig of Riccarton. (NOTE It was Sir John Arnot who married Margaret Craig of Riccarton, daughter of Thomas Craig of Riccarton. They had two daughters, Rachel and Marion )

He was admitted a lord of session, 1st November 1636, when he took the title of Lord Eastbank, and was knighted by the marquis of Hamilton as royal commissioner 14th November 1638. He was superseded in 1641.
