Naomi Dell Nicholson was born in Benson (later part of Kincheloe), West Virginia on October 2, 1903 to Philip Nicholson and Stella Bell. She was the second of seven and the first daughter born to the couple.
Naomi was raised on a farm in in Harrison County, West Virginia (in the area known as Benson or Kincheloe, West Virginia). She was a graduate of Salem College and attended graduate school at the University of Chicago and West Virginia University. In 1930, she lived with her parents and siblings in Ten Mile, West Virginia prior to moving to Smithfield, West Virginia. She was a teacher in the public schools, teaching home economics.In 1936, Naomi married Herbert Blattler in Brooke County, West Virginia. The couple settled in Wellsburg, West Virginia. They had two children. Although Naomi took time away from teaching for the birth of her children, by 1950 she had returned to the classroom, teaching junior high school home economics. She made major contributions to the teaching of home economics in the state of West Virginia and was a retired Brooke County school teacher. The family service to education includes more than 160 years of continuous teaching service. She was a member of First United Methodist Church of Wellsburg, Wellsburg Civic League and Brooke County Retired Teachers Association.
After the 1979 death of her husband, Naomi made her home with her daughter in Westover, West Virginia.
Naomi died at her Westover, West Virginia home on September 9, 1990. She was 86 years old. She is buried adjacent to her husband under a family headstone in Clarington Cemetery in Clarington, Ohio.
