NEWMAN, AUSTIN ORCHARD NEAL served with the Australian Army; Service Number: NX32055[2]; attached to the 2/3 Pioneer Battalion attaining the rank of Private. Austin enlisted on Friday, 14 June 1940 at YARRABIN, NSW and was released from service on Wednesday, 21 April 1943.
Austin served with the 2/3rd Australian Pioneer Battalion and the 2/4th Australian Pioneer Battalion in Darwin until sent to Middle East in push against Rommel. He was wounded in the throat[3].
Austin passed away[4] on Friday, 1st December 1961 at Collingwood[5], New South Wales, Australia, aged 59 years, 4 months, 6 days, and is interred[6] at Mudgee Cemetery, Buckaroo, New South Wales, Methodist Section, Row D.
