Biography

Pvt Charles Newberry served in the United States Civil War.

Pvt. Charles Hamilton Newberry was married to Calista Phillips (1838-1912) in 1854. [1] They had at least three children: Marietta (1858- ), John (1859-1860) and Joseph (1861-1936).[2]

Charles at the age of 39, enlisted with the Union Army on 15 August 1862. He was mustered into Company A, 40th Regiment, Iowa Infantry on 26 September 1862.[3]

Pvt. Newberry died on 3 July 1863 at Snyder's Bluff, Mississippi of disease. He was buried in the Vicksburg National Cemetery, Section O, 3478.
