The sources sited here are actually for William Newberry Jr, brother to Nancy Alfria Newberry Sorrells. Nancy's father was William Newberry, Sr. born 27 Jul 1729 Burlington Co NJ, son of John Newberry (Quaker, millwright, tavern owner) and Elizabeth Tyrell/Terrell. John set up the Mill in Cross Creek, NC in 1755. He also laid out the town that would later become Fayetteville, Cumberland Co, NC. Ancestry has the wife of William as Lucy Adams, but I have not found any proof of that. William Sr, did sale land with a Mary listed. William's children are: Jonathan, Joseph H, William Jr, Mary, John, Elizabeth and Martha, all listed in his will (except for Nancy). He settled in Anson, latter Richmond Co, NC. He died in Apr 1793, Richmond Co NC. His daughter Elizabeth married Barnabas Crawford Powers, Sr. Everything lists Barnabas' wife as Elizabeth Harvey. I have not Harvey DNA hits, but I do have 29 Newberry DNA hits through Jonathan, Joseph, Nancy, William Jr, John, Elizabeth. William received NC land grants and he purchased/sold land and those transactions can be found on the deed records of, United States, North Carolina, Richmond on Family search.
