Biography

Henriette, Prinzessin von Nassau-Weilburg (Henrietta, Princess of Nassau-Weilburg) was born on 22 April 1780 at Kirchheim-Bolanden[citation needed], the youngest surviving daughter of Karl Christian, Fürst von Nassau-Weilburg and his wife Carolina van Oranje-Nassau.

She married on 28 January 1797[citation needed], at Schloss Eremitage, Bayreuth, as his second wife, Ludwig Friedrich Alexander, Herzog (Duke) von Württemberg. He was the second son of Friedrich II Eugen, Herzog von Württemberg, and his wife Dorothea, Markgräfin von Brandenburg-Schwedt, and his elder brother Friedrich was created King of Württemberg. Ludwig was much older than his wife; he was born 30 August 1756, but it was an apparently congenial marriage.

At the time of their marriage, Ludwig was an army officer in the Prussian and then Russian armies, and Henriette accompanied him. The birthplaces of their children reflect these various postings.

They had five children (one source does state they had seven but this isn't confirmed by any other source)

  1. Marie Dorothee (Maria Dorothea) Karoline Wilhelmine, born 1 November 1797;
  2. Luise Amalie Wilhelmine Philippine, born 28 June 1799;
  3. Pauline Luise Therese, born 11 September 1800;
  4. Elisabeth Marie Alexandrine Constanze, born 27 February 1802;
  5. Alexander Ludwig Paul Constantin, born 9 September 1804

She died 2 January 1857[citation needed]
