Chapter 7 "Andrew Murray of Bannockburn" of McNaught, Janet E. (1986) "The History of the Haning Murrays from Roxburghshire Scotland" ISBN 0 7316 3221 4 has details of Andrew Murray's life and times. Born on the Macleay River, he travelled with his parents to the New England when less than 2. At age 22 he joined the John Mackay expedition to Queensland. Andrew's writings, now in the New England archives, give a full account of this expedition. Andrew and his young family selected land in Queensland but years of drought and hardship saw them return to New England. Andrew successfully mined tin at Tingha and purchased the "Bannockburn" property with the proceeds.
