Biography

Lionel Stanislaus MURPHY ^[1]was born in Grafton New South Wales to parents John and Rebecca Murphy.

He is believed to have died at aged 16 years and 7 months after falling from a horse, based on a story told by his sister Mona. Apparently he had taken up being a jockey, but hadn't told his mother. His death certificate states that he died of Injuries to the head but no evidence to show where or how he received them.

He resided at Newtown at the time of his death and his occupation was listed as a Butchers Boy.

Lionel died at the Prince Alfred Hospital, Camperdown, without issue. He is buried in the Catholic Section at at Rookwood cemetery. His father John Murphy is buried in the same grave but unfortunately there is no inscription for his father.
