George Washington Murphy Sr. was born on 16 Jan 1846 in Bienville, Louisiana, United States, son of Roberson Murphy (1813 - >1860) and Mary Ann (Gray) Murphy (~1822 - ~1865).

George married Virginia Devore Berry (1855 - 1906) on 12 May 1872 in Georgetown, Williamson Co., Texas. Their children were:

1. Benjamin Wesley Murphy (1870 - 1955)
2. Emmett Berry Murphy (1887 - 1976).

George died on 27 Dec 1923 in Dixon, Hunt, Texas aged 77.
