OBITUARY: Funeral services for Lorene Holman, 79 of Giddings, are scheduled for 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, March 9, 2021 at St. Margaret Catholic Church in Giddings with Father Miguel Duarte officiating. Burial will follow in the Giddings City Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Monday, March 8, 2021 from 7:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. and on Tuesday, March 9, 2021 from 7:00 a.m. until 9:00 a.m. at Phillips and Luckey Funeral Home in Giddings. A Rosary will be recited Monday evening at 6:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

Lorene Muniz Holman was born on December 9, 1941 in Giddings, Texas the daughter of Matilde and Rosa (Esparza) Muniz. Her marriage to Rudolph Penn Jr. on April 22, 1960 was blessed with three children. She later married Norman Holman on July 29, 1990 at St. Margaret Catholic Church in Giddings. Lorene worked as a paraprofessional for the Giddings Independent School District for 41 years. She was a lifelong and active member of St. Margaret Catholic Church. She was a wonderful and caring wife, mother, and grandmother who cherished the time she could spend with her grandchildren. She enjoyed watching Longhorn Sports, gardening, and decorating her home.

Lorene passed away the evening of Friday, March 5, 2021 at her home in Giddings surrounded by her family.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Matilde & Rosa Muniz; two brothers, Genaro Muniz and Howard Muniz, and four sisters, Lupe Redkey, Josie Kuntz, Marie Muniz, and Kay Chew.

Lorene is survived by her husband, Norman Holman of Giddings; three children, Sherry Weiser of Austin & Dale Weiser of Giddings, Charlotte Penn of Giddings, and Joseph Penn of Austin; seven grandchildren, Brent Weiser & Natalie of San Antonio, Dylan Weiser & Jenny of Los Angeles, California, Adriana Weiser & Kaleb of Austin, Jo Anne & Zach Marlow of College Station, T.J. Penn & Noemy of Austin, Ashley Penn of Austin, and Kyle Holman and Cynthia of Tuscaloosa, Alabama, and two great-grandsons, Marvel Penn and Ryker Marlow.

She is also survived by three step-children, Tami & Ricky Chesshire of Andrews, Ray & Connie Holman of Shreveport, Louisiana, and Shane & Hope Holman of Giddings; seven step-grandchildren, Cody & Jennifer Chesshire of Andrews, Cade Chesshire of Park Rapids, Minnesota, Colby & Jessica Chesshire of San Angelo, Kelton Chesshire of College Station, Savannah & Steven Eberling of Katy, Heidi & Stephen Speight of Shreveport, Louisiana, and Kyle Holman of Tuscaloosa, Alabama; twelve step great grandchildren, Clayton Chesshire, Emmerson Chesshire, Kollins Chesshire, McCrea Chesshire, Mason Chesshire, Titan Eberling, Jakin Eberling, Gavin Eberling, Haven Eberling, Aslan Eberling, Chloe Speight, and Mia Speight. In addition, she is survived by one brother, Louis Sr. & Andrea Muniz of Giddings; four sisters, Gloria & Ben Guajardo of Georgetown, Frances Silgero of Pinehurt, Hope & Clyde Holman of Amarillo, and Lena Barrera of Giddings; two sisters-in-law, Teresa Muniz of Giddings and Rosie Muniz of La Grange, and one brother-in-law, Malcolm Redkey of Austin, as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Pallbearers will be Brent Weiser, Dylan Weiser, T.J. Penn, Kyle Holman, Shane Holman, Ricky Chesshire, Robert Muniz, Joseph Penn, and Timothy Redkey. Honorary pallbearers will be Marvel Penn and Ryker Marlow.

Memorials may be made to Hospice Brazos Valley in La Grange or to the charity of one’s choice.
