Joseph Mungomery was born in Ireland.

Joseph Mungomery was born on the 19th July 1824, in An Pasáiste, County Cork, Ireland, the son of William Mungomery.^{[citation needed]}

Joseph married Charlotte Mary Priddeth on the 12th April 1854 in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia. Joseph's last name is rendered as Montgomery, Charlotte's as Preddeth.^[1]

James and Charlotte went on to have seven (known) children, four sons and three daughters:
