Josie (Mudd) Elery is a part of US Black heritage.

Mary Josephine (Mudd) Elery was born on 7 Dec 1875 in Springfield, Washington, Kentucky, United States, daughter of George Henry Mudd (~1845 - 1924) and Amelda (McAllister) Mudd (~1851 - 1936).[1] Her siblings were:

  2. George Burnett Mudd (1884 - 1965)
  3. Edward Lawrence Mudd Sr. (1886 - 1960)
  4. Harit Mudd (~1891 - )
  5. Raymond F Mudd (1891 - 1963)

In the 1880 census Josey (age 4) was the daughter of George Mudd in Washington, Kentucky, United States.[2]

Josie married William Ellery on 1 March 1892 in Washington, Kentucky.[3] Their children were born in Kentucky.

In the 1900 census Josie (age 26) was the wife of Will Elery in Frederickton, Washington, Kentucky.[4]

In the 1910 census Will (age 40), Farmer, was the married head of household in District 5, Washington, Kentucky.[9] Josie was thirty-eight years old.

In the 1920 census Josie (age 42), Washwoman, was the wife of Will Elery in Springfield, Washington, Kentucky.[5] They had eight children in the home with them. Five were daughters, three were sons.

In the 1930 census Josie (age 54), Laundress, was the widowed head of household at 720 8th St., Louisville, Jefferson, Kentucky.[8] She had three daughters and a son in the home, ages thirteen to twenty-three. There were also several lodgers, a married daughter, and a grandson.

Josie died on 27 Apr 1949 in Springfield aged 73.[10]
