English actress, model and member of the Mountbatten (formerly Battenberg) family. A cousin of Queen Elizabeth II and of Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, she married thrice and settled in Toronto, Canada.

"Lady Iris Victoria Beatrice Grace Mountbatten was born in 1920. She was the daughter of Alexander of Battenberg and Lady Irene Frances Adza Denison.

"She was a great-granddaughter and the youngest great-grandchild of Queen Victoria and was first cousin to Prince Louis of Battenberg, later 1st Earl Mountbatten of Burma, who was assassinated by the IRA in 1979."

1st Marriage

"On 29 January 1941 she received Royal Licence by King George VI to marry Captain (later Major) Hamilton Joseph Keyes O'Malley (after their engagement was formally announced in The Times on 18 January 1941). They married on 15 February 1941 (privately to satisfy the groom's faith) at St Paul's RC Church, Haywards Heath, West Sussex and were then married in the rites of the Church of England at St Mary's Church in Balcombe, West Sussex. They had no children and were divorced on 24 September 1946. She formally reverted to her maiden name of Mountbatten by Deed Poll dated 7 January 1949."

2nd Marriage

"On 5 May 1957 at Pound Ridge, New York, USA, she married Michael Neely Bryan, an American jazz guitarist and musician (9 August 1916, Byhalia, Mississippi - 20 August 1972, Glendale, California), the son of James R Bryan and Laura A Neely. They were divorced months later in 1957 and they had a son Robin Alexander Bryan born on 20 December 1957."

3rd Marriage

"On 11 December 1965 she married William Alexander (Bill) Kemp, a Canadian actor, announcer and broadcaster, the son of Clarence Arthur Kemp and Helen Janet Ballantyne. They had no children and later separated, but they did not divorce and she chose to remain living in Toronto."

Death and burial

"Lady Iris Mountbatten died on 1 September 1982 at Wellesley Hospital, Toronto, Ontario, Canada. The cause of death was a brain tumour.

"Her ashes were brought to the Isle of Wight for interment in the Battenberg Chapel at St Mildred's Church, Whippingham."
