Biography

Birth

Horace Morse was born at the plantation of Port Royal in Cumberland County, Massachusetts (later the town of Livermore, Maine), on 18 Sep 1794, the son of Jonathan Morse and Anna (Lovering) Morse.^[1]

Marriages

1. On 1 Nov 1817, Horace Morse and Permelia Harmon, both of Livermore, Maine (then in Massachusetts), published at Livermore their intention to marry, and they married there on 4 Dec 1817.^[2]
2. On 8 Jan 1825, Horace Morse of Livermore, Maine, and Permelia Dearborn of Hartford, Maine, published at Livermore their intention to marry.^[3] They married at Hartford on 16 Jan 1825.^[4] (See the Research Note on Pemelia's profile for a discussion of the spelling of her first name.)

Children

Horace Morse was the father of the following children, all born at Livermore, Maine (in Massachusetts until 1820), the first two with Permelia (Harmon) Morse and the last six with Pemelia (Dearborn) Morse. They are all listed as his children in the 1928 history of Livermore, Maine,^[5] and the births of all except Julia are recorded in the Livermore vital records.^[6] Julia's birth month and year are from the 1900 census.^[7]

Death

A gravestone at the Lakeside Cemetery in Livermore, Maine, says that Horace Morse died 19 Nov 1877 at the age of 83.^[8]
