[ Home Page | First Page | Previous Page | Next Page | Last Page ] Descendants of William Morrison

William Morrison was born Abt. 1755, possibly in Pennsylvania, and migrated to the Lincoln County area where he died Aft. November 06, 1830 in Lincoln County, North Carolina. His will establishes him as father of Abner Morrison and others. William Morrison appears as an isolate, a man for whom the records provide no family or place of origin. There is an entry in Mecklenburg County Will Book B, p. 64, which records the will of Niell MORRISON, written 10 Jan. 1781, and proved in court, Sept. 1784, mentions a wife Annabella, eldest dau. Hannah STARR, dau. Margaret McKEE, Jane, William, Ann, Alexander, Amelia & James. It is unknown if this connects to the William Morrison who died in 1830. Also, in 1755, a William Morrison entered 640 acres on the eastern bank of the Catawba River in Anson County. This parcel would have been in Mecklenburg when it was formed out of the western settlements of Anson. It is unknown if the William Morrison making that entry has any connection to the earlier William Morrison or Niell Morrison other than the shared surname and the fact that Mecklenburg lies on the eastern border of old Tryon / Lincoln County.

Children of William Morrison. established by his will, are: i. Alexander Morrison, b. Abt. 1780. . ii. William Morrison, b. Abt. 1780; d. Aft. 1860. iii. Abner Morrison, b. Abt. 1785, Lincoln County, NC; d. Bet. 1820 - 1828, Kentucky. iv. Margaret Morrison, b. Abt. 1785; m. Charles Williams, August 28, 1802, Lincoln County, North Carolina; b. Abt. 1775. v. Nancy Morrison, b. Abt. 1785; m. William Williams, August 28, 1802, Lincoln County, North Carolina; b. Abt. 1775. vi. John Morrison, Sr., b. Abt. 1790. vii. Joshua Morrison, b. Abt. 1790; m. Catherine Rhaume, December 08, 1813, Lincoln County, North Carolina; b. Abt. 1795. viii. Geney Morrison, b. Abt. 1800, Lincoln County, NC; m. Jacob Self, November 04, 1829, Lincoln County, North Carolina.

William Morrison left a will recorded in Lincoln County, NC in 1830 in which he names his children. He does not name his wife, nor any sibling, nor does he reveal his origins before appearing in Lincoln County. He cannot be connected with certainty to any other Morrison family, although the Rev. War veteran Alexander Morrison seems likely to be his brother. There is a 1783 will in Mecklenburg County for a Neill Morrison who named sons Alexander, William and James. The naming pattern for sons is similar. William Morrison lies buried at Mount Zion Baptist Church about 5 miles north of Cherryville, NC. Ancestry.com based upon autosomal DNA testing has suggested there may be a link between William Morrison and the Morrison family that settled contemporaneously in Iredell County, NC. No written record is known to support such kinship.
