My Grandmother Gladys Lovey Morganti Taylor told me Charley Morganti left Italy to avoid the Civil War there and ended up fighting in our Civil War. I confess i havent found any definitive prove of either ascertion. in the 1900 Census he indicated he immigrated from Italy in 1862 and in the 1910 Census column 30 the question on service in the Civil War is circled and checkmarked by the enumerator and appears to have UA indicating Union Army. but those are all the documentary evidence i have found. I do think it would have been strange for a Union Veteran to have settled in that part of Kentucky after the civil war.
