Biography

Mary Ann Morgan was born at the Parramatta Female Factory to convict Margaret Morgan on 12 December 1835. She was baptised at St John’s, Parramatta, New South Wales, Australia on 3 January 1836. ^[1]

Mary Ann Morgan was taken from her mother at the Parramatta Female Factory upon turning three years of age. She entered the Parramatta Orphan School on 4 December 1838. ^[2] After her mother left the Parramatta Female Factory she retrieved Mary Ann from the Parramatta Orphan School on 23 May 1839. On 27 April 1843, Mary Ann was returned to the Parramatta Orphan School, her mother had passed away the year before and her mother’s husband was in his mid eighties. Mary Ann left the ophan school on 13 November, 1849, apprenticed to Mrs Bayley at Liverpool. “Mrs Bayley” was likely Henrietta, the wife of Charles Bayly, connected to the Laycock and Macarthur families. ^[3]

Mary Ann married Robert Rixon on 19 November 1862 in Campbelltown, New South Wales, Australia. She was recorded as living at Mount Gilead. ^[4]

Mary Ann passed away on 4 August, 1911 at Campbelltown, New South Wales, Australia. ^[5]
