Barbara was the fourth child, fourth daughter of William and Ada Morgan. She grew up in Pownal, Vermont, where she attended a one room school. An excellent student, hearing the lessons of all the grades gave her an interest in teaching. She attended Bennington High School, where she was salutatorian of her class. She received a scholarship to UVM, where she completed a four year program in education in three years. She was a member of Mortar Board.
Her first teaching job was in Middlebury High School. After her marriage, she returned to Bennington High School as an English teacher. She left teaching for a decade to have her family, and she and Kirt moved to Pennsylvania.
She returned to teaching in the 1960s, and continued her own education with three master degrees, in teaching, English, and library science. Her final job was at Winterthur museum in Wilmington Delaware.
Barbara was the mother of three, and the grandmother of five. She was a fine writer, a lover of literature and poetry, genealogy, and history. She and Kirt were happily married for 67 years.
