Mary Jane, daughter of Charles Morgan Jr and Jennie Niblack, was born in Castile, New York in 1826. The family joined the westward migration to the Michigan Territory, arriving in 1933 and settling in Macon Township, in southern Michigan. She married John Barnard Lewis (1822-1905) on April 13, 1848. Emily and J.B. settled in to farm in Saline Township in Washtenaw County,[1] and had four children:

  1. Edgar Galloway Lewis (1851-1922)
  2. Elva Jane Lewis (1851-1942)
  3. Mary Ann Lewis (1854-1929)
  4. Flora Estelle (1855-1948)

J.B. got the western fever, and Emily Jane and J.B. joined the "Westward Ho!"migration, arriving in Fillore County, Nebraska in 1872. They moved to Geneva, Nebraska in 1876, where she resided until the death of her husband in 1905.[2][3] She then spent time with her children; spending the last two years of her life in Montana, where passes away, on January 3, 1911. Her body was returned to Geneva to be laid to rest alongside her husband.
