I am in the process of uploading my GEDCOM file. Actually, I thought I had already done that, but it doesn't seem to be there. Also, I inferred from the info given that nobody will be able to see my family tree from the GEDCOM file, that I have to re-enter all the data for other people to see it--is that correct? Or should I just tick the box saying that people should look at my Ancestry.com file rather than having to input all that data again? Also, that I have to have documentary proof to input a fact about my ancestors in order to list it as a fact? I have some documentary evidence, but some of the info is undocumented as well--how do I deal with that?
Hello Kenneth, once you upload a gedcom file, wikitree creates a report for you that you'll use to verify for duplicate profiles. If there are no duplicates you'll be able to add the profile to the tree.
In my experience, it is easier to add profiles via gedcom-upload in small numbers, say a group of 10 to 20 family members at a time. Wikitree won't allow you to add any profiles until all have been verified, which is why (in my opinion) having a small report with fewer members is better than a large report. So it might be easier to do "branches" of family at a time. But, I may learn something I don't know (about gedcom upload) if anyone else responds to your question with a better answer.
The GEDCOM will not automatically populate your tree, it generates a GEDCOMpare report which you work through either accepting or rejecting suggested matches, once you have done this any remaining names will need to be added manually.
One of our mentors created a tutorial for the GEDCOMpare process that I found very helpful. I hope that you will too.
If you have any questions about how WikiTree works, let us know by using the "reply" link under our comments or by clicking our names to visit our profiles. From there you can leave a comment or send a private message.
I am pleased to welcome you to the WikiTree family, your contributions will go a long way to joining the world together.
I would suggest starting with the New Member How-To pages, they will save you a lot of time and frustration.
I am here to answer any question you have, no matter how trivial you may think it is. There is no such thing as a silly question. Please add as much information as you can, it all helps to turn a “name” back into a person. I hope you enjoy the site
Happy tree climbing

P.S. If links do not work in an email from WikiTree, try them from the comment section on your profile page.
I see that you have had your DNA tested, congratulations! Getting Started with DNA will tell you more about how DNA kits are used on WikiTree.
To be able to add names you will need to volunteer, you can do this from your Navigation page. Just add tags showing your genealogical interests e.g. surnames you are researching, in the comments box by them add the location/relationship to you, then click on the green box that says "Save tags and volunteer." We will then be able to confirm you as a member.
Volunteering just means you will work on your ancestors to help us achieve our goal of joining all individual family trees into one global family tree.
I hope this helps! If you have any problems, let me know.
