Concerning John's parents: Mary More's family were Catholic and her husband Edward was nominally so. if John was born to these parents and later turned Protestant all his records would have been eliminated as was the Catholic practice at the time. Edward Moore descended from the de la More family of Kent. My "Y" DNA matches at least 6 other "Y" participants, all of whom traced back to the de la More family. I submit this as strong evidence that John's parents were indeed Edward Moore and Mary More. As a side note, my family has had the tradition at least for 5 generations that we descended from Sir Thomas (Saint). Kerry Moore

Inspecting "DNA Connections" above, I only see a Y-DNA test for 25 STR. That is clearly not enough information to narrow down any paternal line specifically, much less predict that someone is descended from John Moore of the Bona Nova. R1b1a2 = R-M269 is about half the guys in Western Europe. The most likely candidates at this moment are those tested into R-BY128326, subset of R-FT214236, subset of R-BY99680. R-BY99680 has several Moore lines through Colonial Virginia. Unless someone tests at least down to R-L20 I believe the test useless for any such claims. Also, I was unable to find kit 13153 under FTDNA's Moore Surname Project, nor Moore Worldwide. Admin may be working on those.

update: profile of Moore-44891 was detached as father of this profile.

ps - the alternative is to revert the profile back to Unknown Moore and detach the profile for a father that was added. No sources for the changes were given, and the new profile for Thomas Moore-44891, father of "Edward", has no sources (well, it says Ancestry, but not even a link!).

The profile attached as father had been "Unknown Moore"... it has just been re-edited to be Edward. I think the time has come to detach that profile and leave this John with no profiles attached for parents.

Any objections?

Cheers, Liz

listed on this category page, which says he was listed in Jamestown Muster & his wife sailed aboard Abigail

More-276 and Moore-2884 appear to represent the same person because: a merge for duplicate profiles for son William has been proposed. These duplicate profiles for his father should be merged first (I don't know the source supporting Moore, but More has no sources - don't know whether More might be right or not, but none of the extended family has that spelling).

based on Mary's biography, she was removed as mother. She had two profiles for husband Edward attached. One was retained as her husband and the other (Moore-6181) was detached but retained as John's father... I would suggest it as a good place to add research notes about who John's parents were.

Is there any evidence for these as John's parents?

RootsWeb Post by Martin Wood states this John Moore was not the son of Edward and Mary. (Interesting - and doesn't seem to be disproved by the sources listed here) Thanks!
