Katherine was born at Pitmilly near St Andrews, Fife about 1460 daughter to William Moneypenny of Pitmillie.
She married John Erskine son and heir of the Laird of Dun about 1480.
John and Katherine had five sons and three daughters:
Katherine and her husband had a charter from William Bishop of Brechin of the lands of Drummie on 24 April 1509. [1]
Katherine's husband John Erskine of Dun was killed at the Battle of Flodden on 9 Sep 1513. Prior to leaving to join James IV' s army he made his will at Dun on 15 Aug 1513 naming Katherine as executrix. [2]
On 3 Nov 1515 she was granted an Instrument of Kenning of her widow's terce as relict of John Erskine of Dun. [3]
In an Instrument of 5 Feb 1530/31 she is mentioned as Katherine Moneypenny lady of the Terce of Dun. Spalding Club, Dun Papers Chr.XV see [The Spalding Club, Dun Papers Chr]
The family bible recorded her death on 3 March 1531/32 as follows:
Ane nobill ladie, Dame Katherine Monypennie, umquhile Ladie of Dwn, depairtit this lyf upon the third day of Marche, the year of God jaj vc threttie ane yeirs.[4] She was buried at Montrose.
