Biography
William Montgomery migrated from Ireland to North Carolina.
William Montgomery's origins are uncertain. Family traditions conflict upon the national origin of this branch of the Montgomerys. "One family tradition states where William came from Ireland, to Philadelphia, that he was a Quaker, and went from Pennsylvania to Guilford Co, NC in the 1770's. Another family tradition states William arrived in Philadelphia from Edinboro, Scotland, then travelled by ship and wagon to New Garden (now Guilford College), Greenboro, Guillord Co, NC. Arriving there in 1772."[1]
He died in 1811 in Guildford, North Carolina. He is probably buried with his wife at
New Garden Friends Cemetery, Greensboro, Guilford County, North Carolina. His will (Space page) was written 9 Jun 1806 and probated 10 Feb 1811.
