By 1865, the family is found living in Windsor, Berkshire County, MA.[4]
In 1870, they are found in the Town of Lee, MA. Their son Martin, his wife Caroline and their two children, Mary and James were living with them.[2]
William and Mary moved back to Ulster County, NY by 1880. She and William are living in Kingston, NY at the time of the 1880 census.[5]
Mary is not found in census records after 1880.
Her date and place of death are not yet known.
Research Note: A Betsy Monroe, age 78, was living with her at the time of the 1870 census. It is on this basis that I believe Mary's last name was Monroe.
Slavery endured in the state of New York until 1827. As Mary was born in New York before 1827, it is likely that she was born enslaved.
