William Monk was born on November 18, 1844 in Lawrence, Ohio, United States, son of Shadrack Monk (~1807–~1880) and Sarah Elizabeth Beesit (~1811–1880).

In 1860, William (16) in Bloom Township, Scioto, Ohio, United States. [2]

William (20) married Emily Davenport Waldo (20) (born on April 10, 1845 in Jackson, Virginia, United States; daughter of Jehial Waldo and Annie Louisia (Holmes) Waldo) on November 2, 1865 in Scioto, Ohio, United States.[3]

In 1870, William (age 24) was the head of household in Jefferson Township, Jackson, Ohio [4]

In 1880, William (age 34), Laborer, was the married head of household in Decatur Township, Lawrence, Ohio [5]

In 1900, William (age 55) was the married head of household in Portsmouth, Scioto, Ohio [6]

William died on November 5, 1903 in Portsmouth, Scioto, Ohio, United States, aged 58. He was buried in Greenlawn Cemetery, Portsmouth, Scioto County, Ohio.[7] [8]
