Biography

Sarah was born in 1692 in Piscataway, New Jersey to John Molleson and Sarah Howell. She married David Fitz Randolph in 1712. They remained in the Piscataway area and had ten children together.

Research Notes

Confused death record

The standard Fitz Randolph genealogies report Sarah's death as 1738, contradicting the birth of her last daughter Margaret in late 1739, as given on Margaret's headstone. This possible error is probably related to a New Jersey will record for a Sarah Fitzrandolph in early 1738. ^[1] However, that record notes her as 'Sarah FitzRandolph, of Middlesex Co., widow', yet Sarah Molleson's husband David was still alive at this time and lived until much later, so the will record is assumed to refer to a different Sarah Fitz Randolph. The 'other' Sarah is probably either: (1) Sarah Bonham, the widow of John Fitz Randolph (1653-1727) who "died 1737/38 at Belvedere..... Administration on her estate was granted Jan. 16, 1738" ^[2], or (2) Sarah Potter of Woodbridge, NJ, the second wife and widow of another John Fitz Randolph (1663-1727); with 'administration on her estate being granted in 1738',^[3] and she had a stepson John who may be the administrator referred to in the will record. Sarah Molleson either would have died giving birth to Margaret in 1739 or some point later.
